My Skrik rya is part of an exhibit in the Community Gallery of the American Swedish Institute this summer. The ryas of a number of local weavers complement the fabulous exhibit, The Living Tradition of Ryijy — Finnish Rugs and their Makers. You can read about the exhibit of Finnish ryijy rugs and about the ryas with a local connection in the new issue of The Norwegian Textile Letter.
But I’m not the only one who finds Munch images suitable for rya. Lisa-Ann Bauch was a student in Jan Mostrom’s Rya Weaving course at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota last week. She was intrigued by the contrasting and complex colors in Munch’s Moon Light (1895). She wove the center section.
Here’s the beautiful result, just off the loom this afternoon.
