When Carol Johnson graciously boxed up many tapestries for me to share at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, she included three hangings in figurative boundweave. Hmmm…should I put them up? They aren’t woven in a tapestry weave, by definition, because it is a loom-controlled weave structure with the weft traveling from edge to edge. But still, people love to see weavings with small figures in them, so I put them up anyway, tucked on a side wall, part of the exhibit, “Tapestry Treasures from the Collection of Carol Johnson,” up at the Weavers Guild through April 12.
For all of you who would like to explore your own figures, clear instructions from Clotilde Barrett are found at this post, “Weaving Figures in Boundweave.”
Enjoy these three Swedish pieces for inspiration!
