Norwegian Textile Letter

I was thrilled to hit PUBLISH for the Norwegian Textile Letter issue on Halloween; I was determined to get out the October issue out before the calendar changed. One of the articles was a recap of the ribbon-winning weaving entries at the 2024 National Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition at Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum. They are beautiful and such creative adaptations of traditional Norwegian weaving techniques. Admire the work here.

I was sorry I was not able to include ALL the weaving entries. The museum staff did not photograph them all, only the ribbon winners. Next time I will be sure to ask ahead of time for all of them.

Several pieces were entered by weavers who have attained the Museum’s Gold Medal in Weaving. Those pieces are included, but not included in the ribbon judging. Ribbon points count towards earning a gold medal. (I have my gold medal, and my “Frida’s Flowers” weaving was in the exhibit this year.)

I need to share another tapestry in the show by another gold medalist, Laura Demuth. I LOVED her animals surrounded by lightning-weave frames. Laura’s weaving often have exquisite hanging devices. This one reflects the woodsy feel of the tapestry.

Here are details.

This was my piece in the show. I always enjoy seeing my pieces in this exhibition, surrounded by fine craft in other media.

Check out the exhibition ribbon winners and all the other great articles in the new issue of the Norwegian Textile Letter.
