The gospel of Frida Hansen is spreading around the country. I taught a Frida Hansen transparent tapestry workshop for the Boston Weavers Guild in March, and will teach in Northern California this month.
Kathy Hassinger came with a photograph by her husband, a single blossom in an array of engaging pink shades. What a fun challenge to interpret those shapes and colors in a completely different medium. You can see the photo underneath Kathy’s loom.

Even though Kathy is early on her tapestry journey, she handled her weaving tasks marvelously– learning to make smooth curves and figuring out how and when to leave slight areas of open warp between shapes.
She also wins a prize, so to speak, for being the first student from the Boston workshop to send me a photo of her completed tapestry! She wrote, “I put my tapestry in the window this morning and it looked beautiful. Context is everything.”

So many intriguing images were on the looms in Boston when our congenial group parted. I look forward to more flowers and birds in my email soon.
