Alden Turns Seven, and Gets a Sheepskin

April 17, 2019 Robbie LaFleur

I pretty much think that everyone needs a sheepskin, so this one went to California for our granddaughter’s seventh birthday. It’s not an heirloom quality

Mink Pillow

October 8, 2013 Robbie LaFleur

After seeing a pillow using strips of fleece as weft in Finland this summer, I experimented with the concept, using uncut strips of thick sheep

My three reasons to cast calorie worries to the wind in Maine. Len Libby chocolate! The Holy Donut! The lemon potato donut, in particular. Fox Family Potato Chips! Best potato flavor, and I can normally leave all my husband’s potato chips in the cupboard untouched. I wonder why their tag line is: “Potato” chips that taste the way Mother Nature intended.
Beach walk in Maine. I love sandpipers. #proutsneckmaine
“Concept of a Wheat Field.” A small pulled-warp tapestry done with the inspiration of @fionahutchisontapestry at a workshop in Knoxville, Tennessee. Read more about the process at robbielafleur.com. #tapestryweaversofinstagram #tapestryweaving #tapestry #hga #americantapestryalliance
At the Handweavers Guild of America conference, a 6” square free-form tapestry woven in Molly Elkind’s “weave a Minime” class (a la Sheila Hicks). So fun, and so interesting to see where others students go with their experimentation. No cartoon, no plan. My challenge was to use muted colors (after the bright colors of the Valley Grove tapestries in the last year), and create texture in materials and weave structure. I used wool, cotton, synthetics, and linen. I thought this might be a long, skinny piece but I have to spend today preparing for my lecture on Frida Hansen and her wool transparency technique tomorrow. So square it is! #tapestryweaving #convergence2022 #handweaversguildofamerica #mollyelkind
I am at the Handweavers Guild of America conference, Convergence, in Knoxville, Tennessee. What a lovely city. I take early morning walks. Today’s theme: bridges with reflections. Plus an arch made of bikes, the sunset dome from the 1982 Worlds Fair, and glazed donuts. There was a Farmers Market this morning downtown, and the donut truck may have had the longest line.
Granddaughter Cora, 9, visiting from Vermont, is learning needle felting today. She has been industriously poking away for an hour—and I’ve heard no screams. She is my fiber girl. She sewed a skirt with owl fabric, too.
