Groovy Swedish looking flowers and green roses - two of the student projects during my first workshop on Frida Hansen’s wool open warp transparent tapestry technique. So fun! Read more, see more photos at robbielafleur.com. #fridahansen #tapestryweaving #billedvev #norwegianweaving #tapestry #vev #scandinavianweaving #vesterheimfolkartschool
People have asked whether Frida Hansen's wool open warp transparencies can be woven on a floor loom. Sure! But I wove a small transparency based on Hansen's Farmer's Roses pattern on a Baby Wolf to test it out for myself. There is a link to my notes in a new post at robbielafleur.com. #fridahansen #tapestryweaving #billedvev #vev #tapestry #contemporaryweaving #weaversofinstagram
People always ask of weavers, “How long did that take to weave?” Here’s a tiny answer, on one day, on one sample rose woven in wool open warp transparency technique. I wanted to finish this before my class starting this Thursday. Photo one: just a bit left to weave. Photo 2: one hour later. Photo 3: one hour and 15 minutes more. Weaving in the ends takes a bit of time! #tapestryweaving #fridahansen #vev #billedvev #vesterheimfolkschool #handweaving #weaversofinstagram
Super super weekend trip to Louisville, a nostalgia tour for Mike, who grew up there. #louisvillebourboninn
A sketch to a tapestry sample for my Frida Hansen transparent tapestry class. In-process photos and the final imperfect and colorful result. So instructional -- both for me and for the discussions I will have with my students at Vesterheim Folk School next week. This sketch from my grandson developed into a test of many different weft yarns. Sometimes the yarn was doubled, sometimes not; some yarn was fuzzy, other yarn had a harder finish. A fun test! #vesterheimmuseum #fridahansen #tapestry #taspestryweaving #billedvev #handwoven
I was searching for the digital museum photo of one of Frida Hansen’s transparencies, Rose Tree and Lilies of the Valley. I didn’t see it right away because in the museum photo, it is hung upside down! Full photos and more at robbielafleur.com. #fridahansen #tapestry #tapestryweaving #billedvev #vev
