At the opening of the blockbuster “Scandinavian Design and the United Stares: 1890-1980” at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Great talk by curator Monica Obniski. Turn a corner in the show and boom-my friend, Frida Hansen’s Sørover tapestry. And thank goodness it could be included, because it might be the only Norwegian textile work. Visitors are amazed. I heard one person say”It’s, it’s so SPECTACULAR.” Another peered closely, looking almost distressed, and said, “How do they even DO that? The faces!” Final photos are Mike and me in a different gallery. #fridahansen #tapestryweaving #billedvev #milwaukeeartmuseum #tapestry #artnouveau #scandinavianart #norwegianart #norskkunst
The Mystery of the Missing Swans and Maidens: A Frida Hansen Tapestry Tale (Webinar) with Robbie LaFleur
Help! Can anyone identify this Norwegian tapestry? Read what I know so far on robbielafleur.com, “The Troll Woman is Turned to Stone in this Mystery Tapestry.” #billedvev #scandinavianweaving #tapestryweaving #tapestry #woventapestry
Our Scandinavian Weavers Study Group is involved with an upcoming show at the North Suburban Center for the Arts in Fridley, MN. Other weavers are welcome, and the theme is pretty easy to fit in to --"Weaving the North." It's a juried show with a short deadline. Join us with your amazing woven works, or just come to see the show when it opens on St. Patrick's Day! #weavingmn #weaversguildmn #callforart
I finished my telemarksteppe experiment on Monday, in time for a fellow weaver to start on Tuesday. But when the impending snowpocalypse prevented her from driving down, I went back to try using three strands of linen in my pattern weft rather than two. Would the design look stronger? Yes! And it allowed me to test out some color blending in this small piece. Now the snow is coming, but we still got the newspaper delivered, a tiny bump in the drift. It will be a good morning to iron and work on the next super issue of the Norwegian Textile Letter. Oh, and that’s my car in the ramp of the Walker Art Center nearby. With so much snow predicted, the city opened up ramps for people to put their cars during the storm. So nice!. #handweaving #telemarksteppe #handweaversofinstagram #weaving #scandinavianweaving #vev
I spent a lovely day weaving in telemarksteppe technique, on a group warp put on the loom at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota by our Scandinavian Weavers Study Group. A total experiment, completely unplanned. Will the resulting 42” runner with bright bands in the center look good? We’ll see. More weavers will enjoy time at the loom, after THE BIG STORM, before the big reveal. #telemarksteppe #scandinavianweaving #vev #weaversguildmn #handweaving #handwoven #weavingmn
