Deadlines are great for creativity, in my book. Next month I am teaching a workshop at North House Folk School, Scandinavian Fringe Embellishments: Folk Art on the Edge(s), part of the annual Fiber Fest weekend. My deep winter days of January will be spent filling boxes of samples by making many items using the techniques I will teach, as inspiration is a big part of the intention of my class. I hope each participant will come away with several project ideas, as well as a completed one. I’m testing various yarns and documenting each project with tons of photos so the students will see the process of each.
I finished a kavelfrans pillow on New Years Eve.
Today I experimented with sock yarn in making a kavelfrans fringe for a pair of fairly boring recycled wool mittens.

The finished, fuzzy-edged mittens now document the January second weather; it warmed up from below zero, only to cloud over and give us flurries.
