More Philadelphia Flowers

Getting an email and photos from one of my Frida Hansen transparency workshop students is a gift! Lori Falbo sent a photo of her finished piece from the Philadelphia workshop this spring; she wove a small section of flowers taken from Frida Hansen’s Sommernatts Drøm [Summer Night’s Dream], 1914.

Borders with geometric elements are common in Frida Hansen’s transparent tapestries. Lori’s borders have open warp diamonds. She did a lovely job of attaching the border to the central design with a single interlocking stitch at regular intervals.

Already in the workshop Lori was thinking of a future project using the wool open warp technique – weaving clouds. She’s started some sampling with puffy clouds on a variegated summer blue sky.

I love to highlight the work that is woven in my workshops and have started a page that will show the completed pieces all in one place. I still need to check in with some weavers.
